Bon Iver

I heard news this month that was very distressing and I want to know whether it is true or not - Is it true that Bon Iver will not be touring again???

They came to Dublin at the start of the month but due to other plans I was not able to go and now I am even more gutted that I didn't get there

To help you through the news if you hadn't heard it until now here is my favourite some from the new album

Bruno Mars

Radio One Live Lounge is great for artists doing covers of songs that they would never normally do. Some of them are absolutely brilliant while others just do not work.  Here is one that works and works very very well . .

Building Pictures

I actually cannot remember how I came across Building Pictures a.k.a John Gribbin who is very lucky to be living it up and playing in Brooklyn! If you live Stateside and see this guy playing GO!!!!

I love the video too!!!! Wish I was on that beach right now!!!!

Want to know more  . . . follow the link below the video and on your way hit the play button!!!

Tokyo Empire

Let me introduce you to another great local band for my wonderful little country.  Feast your ears on Tokyo Empire who hale from Strabane in County Derry / Londonderry!

I seen these guys live for the first time last Friday night just before Heathers played in McHughs and I have not stopped listening to them since.  I actually found it hard to pick one song to put in the post!!

To find and hear more about this band go to either of the links below

The Wishing Well

I had to do a little shopping after work along with collecting my Photo Swap 2012 photo's and while walking through Corn Market in Belfast and I came across a cool band from Australia who are playing in a bar tomorrow night!!!  They are called The Wishing Well and after googling I found out that they are a seven piece folk rock band haling from Melbourne.  As per Wikipedia they have, and I quote

"They have played 1,200 international shows on various tours and sold over 14,000 CDs independently.[1] They have played festivals such as the Queenscliff Music Festival (Australia), Blue Balls Festival(Switzerland), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Skagenfest (Denmark), Nibe Festival (Denmark), Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (Belfast, Northern Ireland) and Canterbury Festival (England)."

Elton John

Cool video and remix from the one and only Sir Elton John who is still bringing great music to 2012!

Mark Foster, A-Trak & Kimbra

Every week, as I'm sure you're all aware, iTunes gives away a free music and app download, and every week whether I know the music or like the look of the app they get downloaded!

Yesterday I finally got around to listening to a few of the free songs and this was one of them  . . . . I cannot stop listening to it!!!

Hope you enjoy

Penny & The Quarters

I finally got sitting down to the film 'Blue Valentine'. Granted it wasn't what I was expecting all at but very good none the less and definitely worth a watch!!

While watching the film, like always, i listen out for any cool tracks and I found a gem from Penny and The Quarters! I just know that you will feel the same!!!!

Katie and The Carnival - Dinosaurs

I first got introduced to this local band from Belfast, last year during Belfast Calling and while listening to local radio station Blast 106 I heard their new single Dinosaurs which I love love love!!

Benjamin Francis Leftwich

I have been to see Benjamin Francis Leftwich twice and loved both gigs!!
Listen to this acoustic video you will get a feel for what his gigs are like.  They are so intimate and quiet with  people sitting on the floor just to get close to hearing him.

Go see this guy if you ever seeing coming to a town or city near you -  he's worth every penny!!!

Alabama Shakes

Feast your ears on these guys!!!

I have a new found love for BANDCAMP and PASTE MAGAZINE and this is why!!! They have introduced me to the amazing Alabama Shakes

As far as I know they are on tour so if you get the chance to go, please let me know what they were like as I read and get very jealous!!

Tennents Vital Untapped

I will apologise in advance for the photo and video overload in this post but I just had to sure every last one of them.

Let me introduce you to the wonderful Peter McVeigh!! I first heard of Peter last year when a friend 'liked' his page on Facebook (I know Facebook gets in everywhere but its true) and being the person that I am and knew that said friend's musical taste could be trusted off I went for a listen.  By the end of the night I had ordered his new EP Lights (which you can get here) and EP from his old band Eskimo's Fall.

My favourite song is at the bottom of this post, give it a listen and then head on over and tell Peter how much you loved his music which I know he would love.

Florence and the Machine

Radio One always bring in great artists to sing in the Live Lounge and put to them the challenge of covering another artists song.  Florence visited recently and gave her take on  'Take Care' by Drake and Rihanna which it is amazing!!

I absolutely love the original and was a little unsure about listening to the cover in case it was really bad but Florence has done a very good job of it

Have a listen . . . .

Jonquil

As my friends and family well know, I am a lover of reality TV shows and my current fad is 'Made In Chelsea' which is basically a scripted show about how the other half live in London. At least one good thing comes out of it - great music! Here is a song from a few episodes ago

Tennents Untapped

Photos via here

Here are the 16 local bands/artists that will be competing for a slot, to play, on the main stages of Tennents Vital 2012  before The Foo Fighters, Black Keys and the Minutes and Florence and the Machine and The Stone Roses.

I will be attending Showcase 2, cheering on and keeping my fingers crossed for local artist Peter McVeigh. I  have loved his music for quite some time now and Thursday will be the first time that I get to hear him live - finally!!!

College & Electric Youth

I thought I would start all your Monday's off with a great song from a great film!!  It is from the film ' DRIVE' and was one the first films that Andrew and I went to see together.  I really enjoyed the film (which might have something to do with Ryan Gosling) but Andrew wasn't overly fussed on it but I did however find out a week later that he loved this song too.  It now reminds me of him and makes me smile!!!

I hope you enjoy!!!
